Maqqieui engineering

Maqqie is a hybrid mobile and web app for the gig and flexible-work sector. It covers job supply, scheduling, payroll and staff management. It was developed at Vanenburg Software in 2019. Employers struggled to match changing staffing needs with the right candidates while also handling the paperwork of payroll and scheduling.

My part

I worked on the platform’s features and user experience: UI development in WaveMaker, JavaScript interactions, and REST API integration, so the workflows stayed smooth and responsive. We worked iteratively and kept users at the centre, refining the interface until it felt the same on every platform.

Shipping a hybrid app

The hard part was debugging the hybrid app on both iOS and Android with PhoneGap, Ionic and Angular. We set up a shared Mac environment for iOS and dedicated tools for Android, which made troubleshooting and tuning much easier.

Results

Maqqie launched on web, iOS and Android from a single codebase, and users praised it as easy to use and reliable. It quickly became one of the most loved gig platforms in the Netherlands.
