About
Johnu Marattil is a product designer in Toronto who designs and builds B2B SaaS and AI products.
I have spent more than seven years designing B2B SaaS platforms and, more recently, AI products. I started out writing front-end code, so I design with a feel for what is hard to build, and I can build a lot of it myself.
The work page has the products I designed, built, or both. The lab has smaller pieces: UI experiments, code snippets, and write-ups of what I tried.
How I got here
I took on freelance design during my undergrad, first for friends and local shops, then for clients on freelancer.in. After my degree I joined Vanenburg Software, building web and mobile apps with distributed teams.
At CloudSEK I moved from UI engineer to product designer. I designed the company's first logo in 2019, then led design for XVigil and BeVigil, built the design system, and grew the design team from one person. After that I designed and engineered UI for the Neeto suite at BigBinary, and led product design for HealthChart, a healthcare platform, at Aquarius Consulting.
Since 2024 I have been designing UrVote and building WahResume, my own AI resume editor, while finishing a Master of Digital Media.

How I work
I own the whole arc where I can: research, information architecture, wireframes, high-fidelity design, and the handoff, or the code itself. I like messy problems, especially taking technical products like threat intelligence, healthcare and AI and making them clear to the people who use them.
